Coding agent and dev environment for building from anywhere

- Tool type
- Coding agent and dev environment
- Made for
- Developers and engineering teams
- Runs on
- Web, CLI, and mobile
- Install the Amp CLI on Mac, Linux, WSL, Windows, or via Homebrew. Orbs can run in Amp-hosted cloud or on your own runners.
What it does
Amp takes in prompts, repositories, bug reports, screen recordings, and production signals, and produces code changes, tests, pull requests, summaries, and rollout monitoring. Agents run in cloud sandboxes called orbs, which keep working after you close your laptop.
Teams use Amp to hand off whole threads of work. An agent can check production logs on a schedule, compare performance numbers before and after a change, reproduce a UI glitch from a screen recording, and ship changes through a Changes tab that runs tests and rebases onto main. Orbs can be shared with teammates through portals and continued from a phone.
Amp is aimed at individual developers and engineering teams who want agents working in real environments, with production access granted and revoked per orb. The Hobby plan is free, with pay-as-you-go Amp-hosted orbs and unlimited self-hosted orbs. Hosted usage is metered in orb minutes, and enterprise terms require a sales conversation.
What it can do
- Run coding agents in persistent cloud orbs that continue after the laptop closes
- Schedule automations so an agent wakes itself to check production and report results
- Read production logs and metrics through orb-level OIDC access that can be granted or revoked
- Accept screen recordings and bug reports as input to reproduce and fix UI issues
- Ship changes from a Changes tab that runs tests, rebases onto origin main, and merges to main
- Share threads and portals with teammates and continue sessions from a phone
Works with
- Google Cloud (OIDC production access for orbs)
- GitHub (create projects from GitHub repositories)
- Linear (mention or assign issues to Amp)
Example workflows
- Monitor a production rollout
- Input: a shipped performance change and a request to check every 15 minutes. Steps: the agent wakes on its schedule, queries production logs through orb access, and compares slow-tick metrics before and after. Output: a status report and a shareable before/after table.
- Fix a UI flicker from a screen recording
- Input: a screen recording of a glitch and a description. Steps: the agent reviews the video, identifies hover and tooltip causes, proposes a fix, and starts a Storybook preview in a portal for testing. Output: a patch reviewed in the Changes tab and shipped to main.
Before you choose
- Orb minutes apply to Amp-hosted orbs on paid tiers; self-hosted orbs are unlimited on Hobby.
- Production access is granted per orb through OIDC and can be revoked; review those grants before enabling automations.
- Enterprise features such as SCIM, audit logs, and custom self-hosted orbs require a custom contract.
