What it does

Atlassian's remote MCP server lets an MCP-compatible AI client read from and act on your Atlassian data. It takes natural-language requests, such as asking for a ticket's status or summarizing a planning page, and returns answers drawn from Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket, Projects, Goals and Loom recordings. It can also create and update work items or pages. The context comes from your Teamwork Graph.

People add the server URL to a client such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code or Codex, sign in, and then work from inside that client without switching tabs or copy-pasting. Typical requests include turning meeting notes into Jira work items or moving a ticket and commenting on it. What sets it apart is that it is Atlassian's own hosted server, with OAuth 2.1 sign-in that respects existing permissions, plus admin controls over reads, writes and deletes, site-level data policies, and SSO through your identity provider.

It suits developers, team members and admins who already keep work in Atlassian products and use an MCP-capable assistant. Access requires an Atlassian account and a client that supports MCP. Requests that retrieve data or generate insights consume Rovo credits from a shared organization pool, so heavy use can add cost. Clients can act with your permissions, so review high-impact changes before confirming. Version 1 users are moved to v2 tools on March 1, 2027.

Check and update a ticket from your IDE
Input: a ticket key such as PROJ-456. Steps: ask for its status, then ask to move it to In Review with a comment that the PR is up. Output: status summary and an updated ticket.

Before you choose

  • Search and context tool calls consume Rovo credits from a shared organization pool, so heavy use may add cost.
  • Clients act with your existing permissions, so use least privilege and monitor audit logs.
  • v1 users are automatically moved to v2 tools on March 1, 2027; incompatible clients may need cached credentials cleared.
