What it does

Claude Code works inside a software project to investigate problems and make coordinated changes across files. It can explore an unfamiliar repository, explain how a feature works, implement a change, run commands and tests, and help prepare the result for review. The useful output is a changed, checked codebase rather than only a suggested code snippet.

You can work interactively in a terminal or editor, use the desktop app, or hand off supported tasks through the web and other connected surfaces. Project instructions, skills, hooks, and external tools help it follow your team’s conventions. Typical jobs include fixing a reported bug, adding tests, reviewing a change, and carrying out a migration that touches several parts of an application.

It is designed for developers who can evaluate the changes and decide what should ship. A Claude subscription provides one access route; API and supported cloud-provider billing are alternatives on supported interfaces. Local commands use the permissions you grant, and a passing test run still needs to be judged against the intended behavior.
