What it does

Compound Engineering is a set of skills installed into a coding agent you already use. Its six-step loop (brainstorm, plan, work, simplify, review, compound) takes in a feature or change request and produces planned, built, and reviewed code. The compound step writes learnings to docs/solutions/, where later, unrelated plans can find and reuse them.

People use it to run the agent through a full workflow instead of a single prompt, with most effort going to planning and review rather than execution. Skills cover ideation, planning, code review, debugging, Git commits and PR handling, and frontend polish. Each unit of work is meant to make the next one easier, because captured learnings persist in the repository.

It suits engineers and teams already working with a supported coding agent who want structured, repeatable workflows. In Claude Code, installation takes two plugin commands, and other hosts are covered on the install page. It runs inside those host agents rather than as a standalone application.

What it can do

  • Compound skill (ce-compound) that writes learnings to docs/solutions/ for later runs
  • Git workflow skills (ce-commit, ce-commit-push-pr, ce-babysit-pr, ce-worktree)
  • Debugging and testing skills (ce-debug, ce-test-browser, ce-test-xcode)

Works with

  • Claude Code
  • Cursor
  • Codex App
  • Codex CLI
  • GitHub Copilot
  • OpenCode

Before you choose

  • Runs inside a host coding agent; the page does not state separate pricing or model costs for the skills themselves.
  • Value depends on writing learnings into docs/solutions/ and the repo being used across runs.
  • The source lists many skills and hosts but does not detail per-host feature differences.
