Google Antigravity
Google's agentic development platform with a desktop app, terminal CLI, IDE extensions, and Python SDK.
- Tool type
- Agentic development platform
- Made for
- Developers and engineering teams
- Runs on
- Local desktop, terminal, and supported IDEs
- App and CLI on macOS, Windows, and Linux; IDE extensions in VS Code, JetBrains, Visual Studio, Zed, Xcode, and Eclipse; SDK as a Python script (3.10+).
What it does
Google Antigravity is an agentic development platform for building software. It takes in a codebase, a task described in natural language, and optional project context such as skills, MCP servers, and rules, then produces code edits, implementation plans, verification reports, diffs, and browser test recordings. Four surfaces share one agent harness: the Antigravity App, a desktop command center for multiple local agents; the Antigravity CLI, a terminal client (agy); IDE extensions for editors such as VS Code and JetBrains; and a Python SDK for building custom agents.
People use it for synchronous pair programming and for background work. A developer can ask an agent to add promo-code validation to a checkout service, review the generated plan and diff, then run the test suite from the same session. Background subagents can work in isolated Git worktrees while the main session stays open. Antigravity is distinct for its artifacts (plans, diffs, verification reports) and its enterprise controls such as VPC Service Controls and regional data residency.
It suits individual developers who want an agent on a local workstation, as well as enterprise teams that need Google Cloud governance. Individual access starts with a free plan, with Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans offering higher rate limits. Enterprise use runs under Google Cloud Terms of Service with usage-based or seat-based options. Key limitations: rate limits apply, model availability varies by plan, and some IDE enterprise features are in preview.
What it can do
- Run autonomous coding agents in a desktop app that manages multiple local agents in parallel.
- Work from a terminal-first CLI that executes shell commands and manages background subagents.
- Use IDE extensions with agent panels, interactive plans, and inline diff reviews.
- Build custom agents with a Python SDK that uses the Antigravity agent harness.
- Generate visual artifacts such as implementation plans, unified diffs, and verification reports.
- Run sandboxed Chromium browser automation for UI testing.
Works with
- Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers (stdio and SSE)
- Custom skills defined in SKILL.md files
- Google platform bundles including Firebase, Android, Flutter, Chrome DevTools, Google Cloud Data, Maps, and Science
- Corporate SSO and BYOID via Google Cloud Workforce Identity Federation (such as Okta)
Example workflows
- Add promo-code validation to checkout
- Input: a natural-language request to validate discount codes in a checkout service. Steps: the agent proposes an implementation plan, edits the code, and runs the test suite. Output: a plan, a diff, and a test verification report for review.
- Review a project's architecture
- Input: a request to investigate a repository and report on important files and data flows. Steps: the agent reads the codebase and writes a review document. Output: a Markdown report describing architecture, key controllers, and entity models.
Before you choose
- Usage is governed by rate limits and AI credits; higher tiers raise limits and availability of premium models.
- Model availability differs by plan (Free, Pro Trial, Pro Paid, Ultra, Enterprise), so confirm which models your plan includes.
- Some IDE enterprise features are GA only in VS Code and Visual Studio and in preview in JetBrains, Zed, and Xcode.
