What it does

HumanLayer is a coding-agent IDE and cloud workspace for software engineers and teams building or maintaining code. Start with a task described in the workspace or based on a Linear or Jira ticket, choose a workflow, and select the repository or directory. HumanLayer can create worktrees and launch agent sessions. Its documented workflow can move through questions, research, design, structure, planning and implementation, with checkpoints for people to review.

The workspace groups sessions, artifacts and worktrees; artifacts such as research notes, designs and plans are versioned and tied to tasks. Teammates can comment on design documents, and comments and decisions feed back to agents. Users can inspect agent messages, tool calls and code changes, then collaborate through web, desktop or phone interfaces. Local and remote daemons run agent sessions; the remote-daemon guide documents CLI installation and authentication.

HumanLayer supports agent options including Claude Code, Codex, Copilot and Fireworks. The site describes BYOK, so users supply their own subscriptions or API keys; those providers’ charges are separate from HumanLayer’s price. A local daemon can run sessions on a workstation, while remote work requires a configured daemon host. The Starter plan is free for up to three team members and 200 sessions per month; Pro is listed at $100 per user per month.
