What it does

JetBrains Air is an agent workspace for building software. It takes in a project's repositories and tasks you assign to coding agents, such as Claude Agent, Codex, Junie, and Copilot, or any agent connected through ACP. Its output is agent-made code changes you can review as diffs, comment on line by line, and validate with IDE tools, along with session progress, changed files, and outgoing commits.

People use Air to run several agents across parallel projects, each with its own sessions, and to connect agents already installed on their machine. Air Teams adds shared cloud environments, scheduled automations for tasks like code review and documentation updates, and centralized MCP server setup. Air Context uses semantic indexing so agents start with project understanding rather than scanning the whole codebase.

Air suits developers who work with coding agents and teams or organizations that need shared environments and governance. Access uses JetBrains-managed AI credits or your own subscription or API keys. The IDE plugin, web, and CLI surfaces differ in scope, mobile is marked coming soon, and Air Teams is early access, so check the current availability of each feature before relying on it.

What it can do

  • Run multiple coding agents, including Claude Agent, Codex, Junie, and Copilot, and connect any ACP-compatible agent.
  • Track parallel projects with separate sessions, unread updates, changed files, and outgoing commits.
  • Open agent diffs in context, validate changes with IDE tools, and leave line comments for the agent to act on.
  • Set up automations triggered by merges, pushes, PRs, or issues for tasks such as code review, lint checks, and documentation updates. (Air Teams / cloud availability varies)
  • Share cloud project environments with teams, with control over VM size, internet access, and secrets. (Air Teams / cloud availability varies)
  • Set organization permissions, cost limits, and usage analytics, and bring keys from Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI, or Anthropic. (Air Teams / cloud availability varies)

Works with

  • Claude Agent
  • Codex
  • Junie
  • GitHub Copilot
  • OpenCode
  • Agent Client Protocol (ACP)
  • MCP servers
  • Amazon Bedrock
  • OpenAI
  • Anthropic

Example workflows

Review an agent's feature change
Illustrative example. Input: a task such as adding a dark mode toggle to a site header. Steps: the agent scans the project, edits components and hooks, and reports progress with credit use. Output: a diff you open in context, validate with IDE tools, and comment on line by line for follow-up.
Automate code review on pull requests
Illustrative example. Input: a PR created in a connected repository. Steps: an automation triggered by PR creation runs a code-reviewer agent. Output: review results attached to the run, with AI credit spend tracked per automation.

Before you choose

  • AI credits are billed at public API rates when using JetBrains AI; check current rates before estimating cost.
  • Cloud runs and Air Teams are rolling out gradually or in early access, so availability varies by customer.
  • The mobile client is marked coming soon and should not be assumed available.
