What it does

Notion is a workspace where teams keep pages, databases, forms, simple sites, a calendar and meeting notes in one place. Content goes in as pages, files, database rows and connected-app data, and comes out as organized records, charts, published pages and AI output. Notion Agent completes multi-step tasks using context from Notion, connected apps and the web, while AI search returns cited answers.

People use it as a shared system of record for projects, wikis and tasks, then add automation on top. Custom Agents run in the background on schedules or on events such as a new database page, a comment or a Slack message, and act only on the pages and apps they are given access to. Developers can add Workers (beta) for custom syncs, agent tools and webhook triggers.

It suits individuals, small teams and larger organisations; Free is for personal use and trying the AI. Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search (beta) require the Business plan. Custom Agents require Business or Enterprise and are billed on credits, and sub-agent hand-offs consume more. Custom Agents are built on desktop or web only.

What it can do

  • Pages and databases with subtasks, dependencies, custom properties and charts
  • Notion Agent for multi-step tasks using workspace, connected-app and web context
  • AI Meeting Notes without a meeting bot
  • Search across connected apps such as Slack and GitHub, with cited answers
  • Custom Agents triggered by schedules, Notion events or Slack events
  • Workers for custom syncs, agent tools and webhook triggers (beta)

Works with

  • Slack
  • Google Drive
  • GitHub
  • Asana
  • Google Analytics
  • Claude
  • Codex

Example workflows

Weekly report from a database
Input: a tasks database and a Slack channel. Steps: create a Custom Agent, grant it that database and channel, add a weekly recurring trigger with clear instructions. Output: a recurring report posted to the chosen channel.
Triage new feedback
Input: a feedback database. Steps: add a trigger for pages added to the database, filter by status or keyword, tell the agent what to label and update. Output: updated records and optional Slack notifications.

Before you choose

  • Custom Agents are an add-on billed in Notion credits, so each run, and any sub-agent hand-off, consumes credits.
  • Agents see only the pages, databases and apps you grant; a Slack admin must connect Slack first.
  • Several features are labelled beta or alpha, including Enterprise Search, Workers and the Agent SDK.
