What it does
TraeCode, the coding product in ByteDance's TRAE family, takes code repositories, shared documents, online search results and natural-language instructions as context. It produces code edits, multi-line suggestions and projects that its agents can plan, write and deploy. It is distinct from TraeWork, the separate general work assistant.
TraeCode has two working modes. IDE mode adds agent help to a conventional editor, including a Tab-driven feature (CUE) that predicts your next edit. SOLO mode hands whole tasks to an autonomous agent that handles planning through deployment while you watch. Distinct features include built-in and custom agents that can act as sub-agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP) access to external resources, a preview tab where agents can read console logs and inspect page elements, and customizable rules.
It suits developers, from hobbyists building MVPs to teams with larger codebases. You download the app and sign in; membership tiers (Lite, Pro, Pro+, Ultra) are token-based, with a 14-day Pro trial for new users. Limits: usage beyond a plan's token allowance needs on-demand billing or an upgrade, and actual task counts vary with context size and difficulty. For indexing, files may be temporarily uploaded for embedding.
What it can do
- IDE mode with agentic assistance inside a traditional coding workflow
- SOLO mode: autonomous agent that drives development from planning to deployment
- Built-in and custom agents, usable as sub-agents
- Tab-based next-edit prediction (CUE) across multiple lines
- MCP access to external resources and a browser preview tab for debugging
- Rules and repository context to tailor AI behavior
Works with
- Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Example workflows
- Delegate a feature build in SOLO mode
- Input: a written description of the feature and your repository. Steps: describe the goal, let SOLO plan and use tools, then review progress in the visual interface. Output: implemented code and a deployable result for you to review.
- Speed up edits in IDE mode
- Input: an open project with context and rules set. Steps: write code, press Tab to accept predicted next edits, and ask the agent for changes. Output: edited files and multi-line suggestions applied in place.
Before you choose
- Pricing is token-based; going past the allowance requires on-demand billing at standard API rates or an upgrade
- Indexing may temporarily upload files for embedding, then plaintext is deleted; Privacy Mode and ignore rules can limit use
- Data is stored by account location in the US, Singapore or Malaysia
